It happened at the end of my fourth year working as a naturopath, helping people improve their health through nutrition, lifestyle and nervous system care.
I loved what I did, but as my patients’ health got better, mine got worse.
Running a clinical practice and solo business took all of my energy, leaving nothing for my writing. My lifelong dream of being a published fiction author quietly gathered dust.
After another year of 14–16-hour days, I was forced to close my practice.
I wish I could tell you I immediately recognised I was burnt out and began rebuilding my energy, but that’s not what happened.
Instead, I went through a period of denial, telling myself I was just lazy and needed to push harder.
It was years before I allowed myself the care that led me to recover from burnout and return to writing.
When I started engaging with the creative community again, I discovered something that surprised me:

I was even more surprised to see it treated as a mindset issue, rather than the complex mind-body experience it actually is.
So, I began helping creatives recover from burnout and return to their art, using my understanding of the nervous system, my background in healthcare, and my own lived experience.

No preparation is needed – just bring yourself.
If you can, though, I recommend setting yourself up in a way that helps you feel a little more present and relaxed. That might look like closing some tabs, putting your phone on silent, and/or making yourself a cup of tea before we begin.
But if all you can do is show up exactly as you are, that’s more than enough.
